RAAF 7TH INTAKE 1953
Tottenham/Frognall
Reunion No.12 - Albury
27th - 28th April 2007
Friday 27th April At the Quality on Olive Hotel was the venue arranged admirably by Ian and Monica Green.
Members who arrived on Thursday played a round of golf on Friday with mixed results. Friday arrivals, afteer settling in to the hotel arranged to meet for dinner at the Commercial Club where a hearty meal was enjoyed, with the usual merriment.
A sumptuous breakfast has had on Saturday morning. There was good rain also throughout the district overnight. Some members visited the Army Museum, Bandiana after breakfast. The ladies, of course, went to the shops!! Arriving mid morning were the Standishs' to increase the number of attendees.
Lunch today was taken at the SS&A Club opposite the hotel. Tables were rearranged and meals ordered. Light lunch was the order of the day.
The normal Saturday afternoon meeting was arranged to gather together all attendees in the one spot. The main item for discussion was the location of our next reunion. After suggestions of Colac, Launceston and Canberra, it was generally agreed that Len and Barbara Glare would host the next reunion in Canberra.
Tonight we had an excellent meal in the hotel dining room and were entertained by Ron Hearn with an expose' on the eating habits of some members and the misfortunes of the golfers. This went down very well.
On Sunday a coach trip was organised by Ian and co., to Bright and Beechworth. The cost of this trip was marginally increased due to some members pulling out at the last moment. However, it was well worth the extra.
Noel Meyer and Eileen left us this morning to return home.
Again, there were rain showers during the day, but everyone appreciated the need for rain at this time.
Morning tea has taken at the Beechworth Bakery, a hot cuppa and a nice cake which was not really necessary after our hearty breakfast, but who can refuse?
The telegraphists among us took the opportunity to visit the Beechworth Telegraph Station which was open and had a chance to listen to some morse between Beechworth and Bendigo offices.
On to Bright for lunch and another great meal. Bright was colourful at this time with autumn colours in the trees for which Bright is famous.
Our return journey took us to the village of Yackandandah.
Finally, on Sunday evening another meal was taken at the SS&A Club.
Monday morning saw the early departure of Dean and Joy Standish, then Lindsay and Helen Porter who needed to catch a taxi to the airport to fly home to S.A.
Eventually, goodbyes were said and we all headed out on our way to home and other destinations.
A great weekend ... See you in Canberra 2008.
