Reunion No.17 Ballarat
22nd to 25th March 2012
Once again the reunion had been well organised to take place at the Mercure Ballarat Hotel & Convention Centre on this weekend.
The golfers met and played on Friday with the addition of Harold Inglis for the game.
Saturday saw the arrival of the remainder of the members attending the weekend. It was pleasing to see the regular interstate members
again attending. The members were saddened to hear of the loss of another attendee in Claire Weir, our condolences to Kevin.
It was reported that Ron Hearn has made the move from Queensland to Wangaratta in Victoria. Hopefully we will see more of Ron in
the future. Noel Meyer is in serious poor health with depression and our thoughts go out to him at this time. Don McLennan is stil in
poor health which prevented him from attending.
At the general meeting in the afternoon a resolution was taken to hold the next reunion in Geelong.
As usual on Saturday evening, our formal dinner was held with a fine three course meal.
I guess the highlight of the weekend was the coach trip exploring the Ballarat Gold Towns. Beginning at Creswick and on to Daylesford.
A drive through the Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens viewing the Begonia Display, followed by a visit to the Chocolate Factory and a demonstration
of the fine art of chocolate making (and a taste). Driving to Hepburn Springs we were able to take some mineral water with various reactions.
A sumptuous lunch at the local motel of soup and sandwiches with cakes, tea & coffee.
We returned to Clunes where afternoon tea was taken in the park after a wine tasting of local wines.
We returned after a very good outing down the Avenue of Honour passing the Arch of Victory which has recently been restored to former glory.
Back to the hotel about 5pm where those heading back home said final farewells until next time.
