Reunion No.8 2001 Canberra

RAAF 7TH INTAKE 1953
TOTTENHAM/FROGNALL

Reunion No.8 - Canberra
6th - 7th October 2001

So fresh in our memories is the 8th reunion held in Canberra, at Olims Hotel.
Having decided that this reunion would be in Canberra, it was left to the only representative in Canberra, Len & Barbara Glare to organize the accommodation and programme.

So with his usual efficiency, Len booked us in to Olims for bed and breakfast at reasonable rates. We all paid deposits and it was interesting to find that the hotel had fluffed the amounts paid and we were all to be overcharged $50. However, with some fairly fast footwork, this matter was resolved to our satisfaction.

We were located a short walk from the War Memorial and our visit here was supported by two able guides. With their knowledge we learned quite a bit more than we had on previous visits.

Len also organized a tour of Parliament House/s. Whilst this was taken up by most members, others had decided to make the time available for other pusuits, having already been over the House/s.

Our formal dinner on Saturday evening was most successful. A very good meal in very good company. Kodak would be pleased with the result, as many photographs of the evening were taken.

It was unfortunate that some of our members were caught up the Ansett Airlines debacle. Having booked flights from home ports, the airline being in a state of flux was unable to meet these bookings. Colin Mackenzie & Jean and Des Hinds & Betty were affected by this event.

It was also pleasing to see that Bruce Stevens and wife Annie made the effort to attend this reunion for the first time. Hopefully they will be with us at all future events.

Some members spoke on the location of the next reunion. There was general support for Tasmania. Des Hinds was contacted by telephone and he had no hesitation in accepting Tasmania as the next venue. He will be ably assisted by those other members from Tas.

See you there!

Also be aware that there was agreement for the reunion following Tasmania to be in Queensland. Our Gold Coast resident has accepted the challenge!
